Netball was derived from Basketball and first played in England in 1895. Since then, the popularity has grown (a lot!) and is now played by more than 20 million people in more than 80 countries. If you really get to love the sport there are four major competitions that take place internationally: the quadrennial World Netball Championships, the Commonwealth Games, the yearly Quad Series and Fast5 Series. In 1995, netball became an International Olympic Committee recognised sport, but it has not been played at the Olympics as yet.
A few FACTS about the sport:
If you fancy having a go at netball, you’re in luck! You have Ashby Netball Club right on your doorstep.
Ashby Netball Club originally started as a Back to Netball group but changed their name in 2011 to include everyone, not just people getting back into the sport. They play in the NWL League and in the Loughborough Town Netball League and have a good mixture of players with ages ranging from 16 to 50+.
So, if you have a passion for netball or just fancy trying something else and are looking to join a successful and competitive local team, please get in touch on ashbynetballclub@hotmail.com
